Dowse Art Trip

Yesterday we went to the Dowse Gallery. First we had a story.
Then we went to the workshop to create some abstract art. We were learning lots of different ways to put the paint onto the paper.
We can't wait to get our artworks back on Friday.
Using a brush.
Spattering using a toothbrush
Using an eyedropper.

Even sprinkling on salt.

ANZAC Day Ceremony

At the end of a week of learning about ANZAC Day, World War I, and Gallipoli we held our own ANZAC Day ceremony. It was nice to have some parents along too.
We had some crosses that came from the New Zealand Defence Force as part of the 100th year anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. The names on the crosses are those of real Wellington area soldiers who served in the war.

As part of the ceremony we put poppies we had made on to the crosses. Representatives from each class, as well as some teachers and adults were selected to add poppies.
It was wonderful to see all the children being so respectful at our ceremony - well done everyone.

ANZAC Day Talk

On Friday we visited by Lt. Col Kent Collard. He talked to us about ANZAC Day, Gallipoli and the role New Zealanders played there. He also talked about the different branches of the New Zealand Defence Force. It was very interesting and we all learned a lot, teachers included.
After that the he shared all the equipment soldiers take away on deployment. The students even got to try the equipment on.

A few even got to try the food the soldiers take away on duty.
